I would invest in our future...the children. Teach them the importance of integrity and the value of their future. That they should work hard at a young age in order to take it easy the rst of their life...cause if they take it easy now...they will have to work hard the rest of their life. Teach them love,appreciation and respect amoung others. And to do this it is important that we invest in our teachers for they hold the future of our children in their hands. Return teaching to a high level profession that is rewarded fairly and can be selective. Picking only the best educators. I could go on and on about the importance of positivly influencing our future thru our children with the select teachers that have integrity and respect for others and life in general. Children are very observant and infuential so let us influence them in the right way.

If time and money was no object I would start my own mental illness awareness organization. My theory is that if those struggling with mental illness were provided with the opportunity for proper care that they can afford, if not free, they would take it. I personally struggle with a mental illness and I know how difficult financially and mentally it is to find the proper care in my area and then the cost of medications!
My theory is if those who struggle were receiving treatment how much better would society be??? More people would be able to be productive members of society.
I want the stigma of mental illness to go away...I don't want people to be afraid or ashamed to ask for help, much like I was in the beginning.

I would find a way to shelter, care and feed stray animals until they find a home. I know that there is the Humane Society and rescues, but it seems like there are so many strays that not all have a chance to benefit from those organizations.

Money is an issue....but I am in doing it anyway.

I am starting an organization called Exhibit Change - encouraging impact through design thinking and playful curiousity.

That means engaging communities to analyze and dissect challenges from an empathetic and user driven view and to design and create beautiful innovative solutions for community development, healthy neighbourhoods and empowered people! Design your life, by designing for others.

A book like "Change the world, Change your Life" is exactly the values I am trying to promote.

If money and time were no object I would definately be spending more time with the Red Cross or working more as an advocate for low income people. As an advocate I did everything from going to Drs appts, to going to court.

I loved both of these jobs very much but they just didn't pay the bills nor did they have health insurance.

I'm really passionate about basic needs. Everyone should be able to have shelter, food, healthcare, etc. I believe this! I would find a way to get the resources, education & coaching to every community in need (all over the world!) so that they could be self-sufficient, providing for themselves but still doing what is unique to their culture, land and people!

I just want to say how wonderful it is, as a special ed teacher, to see how many of your responses have to do with schools, education, and teachers. It makes me feel warm inside to know that not everyone is anti-teacher! I recently read posts on our governor's budget input website and a sickening number of people were posting slams against teachers and the public school system. It was disheartening, to say the least. Reading this has restored some of my belief that we are appreciated. Thanks you all!

As to my idea, I would start a mediation organization to help people find common ground in areas where there are disputes. I know in my heart that even though the gulf seems vast between 2 positions, there is always a place of common ground on which to start building a bridge.

On a local level, I would create an outdoor adventure book club for kids of all ages---we'd read interesting books that encourage their imaginations, expand their vocabulary, and stimulate their minds.

On a larger scale, I'd like to see more U.S students become globally aware, especially regarding women's issues. By traveling and working in 3rd world countries, kids would realize that there is life outside our protected bubble. It's an amazing thing to see U.S. students 'light bulb' moments!

On a grand scale, I wish that I could improve child protective services programs so that more kids get help and support when they need it. On a smaller scale, I've wanted to start a teen shelter for runaways so that kids have a safe, loving place to go when they feel like there are no other options.

End Hunger. Everyone in the entire world would have nutritious food in ample quantities. So much can be accomplished, so many lives saved, so much thought put into the solving of all the other problems, if that pure, basic need were satisfied universally. How many children who starve today cold have been the Einsteins and Schweitzers of tomorrow?

I'd start an employment agency for people with special needs and/or learning disabilities. I'd match their unique skills with the perfect job for them, and I'd train companies to accept, utilize, and value these people for what they alone can contribute.

Cheryl~don't know where you live but here in Dallas you don't need to wait until retirement or lottery winnings (and I bet you don't in your town either). The county hospital/children's hospital needs volunteers at all shifts...I have gone on my lunch hour. So go, now, and check it out!

But for my answer it would build libraries around the world, but especially in places like Peru, Nepal, Haiti and other very third world areas. There is already an organization out there but I would help!
