Update

Hi guys! Just wanted to let you all know that I'm thinking about you. :) All weekend I was thinking, "I'm gonna start blogging again on Monday." But a few other things got in the way.

So right as I took my blogging hiatus, I got a nasty cold or something that had me coughing for two weeks straight, which wouldn't have been all that bad, except I couldn't sleep a wink. And I am a gal that NEEDS her sleep. Luckily I got over it, thanks to many, many, many different remedies.

But as all that was going on with me, my mom has been having some health issues herself. At the end of April, she was feeling fine and then all of a sudden had this strange feeling, like her energy was just drained from her body, and she had this numbness in her head. She thought she was having a stroke. But after an emergency room trip, CAT scans, EKGs, etc, they found nothing unusual.

Well, it's been nearly a month, and after another emergency room visit and three doctor visits, she is still pretty sick. She has no energy, can barely get out of bed, and can't really eat (which is not good for a tiny 100 lb lady!) They aren't sure what's wrong. Her doctor was certain it was a viral infection and it would be gone in a week, but that was three weeks ago. She's seeing a GI specialist next week, so we'll see.

I feel so terrible. I wish there was something I could do to help her. She wakes up every morning feeling like death. I took a personal day yesterday and spent time with her, petting her, listening to her. It upsets me that I live 90 minutes away because I would want to be there for her every day. And unfortunately we don't have any family around to help out. So if you could spare some good vibes, I'd graciously accept! :)

But back to the blog. I have so many things to share. New NICE Sites and Testimonials and photos. And duh, I realized, thanks to an email from Kristen, that I totally forgot to announce a winner for the Kir DeVries giveaway! I am so sorry! I promise to do the drawing tonight! And I'll get back on track soon. I've been feeling like a part of me is missing, and I know it's Operation NICE!

Sorry to hear about you mom. My dad has been sick the past few years (strokes and such) and it is not easy to see your parent go through things like that. We are lucky to live just blocks away, but I am sure that your mom knows you would be there more if you could. Give her lots of phone calls if she's up to it, and if you know how to get a hold of her friends you might want to let them know what's going on so they can be there for her to.

If she is like me at all, she won't be telling them! But you can, and then she could have support near by.

Good luck! Sending good vibes to both of you.

Oh, no! Hope your mom is feeling better soon. I have been through a parent being sick and undiagnosed, and it's scarier than knowing what is wrong. Sending good thoughts both your ways!

First of all, I love your blog and I am a faithful reader :)

I'm really sorry about your mom being sick :( I just wanted to tell you that I had the exact symptoms when I had mono (aka. the kissing diease, ha!) It might be nothing close to this but I just wanted to put that our there for you! I'll be praying for her :)

It sounds like you two have a really special relationship. I hope the doctors discover what is wrong and that it's nothing too serious!

HI! I love getting your e-mails! I wanted to comment two things:
#1, I'm not into "vibes" but I do pray, so I will pray for you and your mom!
#2, I'm reading a book called "The Maker's Diet" (I have my own gut issues and it's helping already)and the author's story, and stories of others it has worked for, sounds a lot like what your mom is experiencing. Just wanted to pass that along! :)

Hi I just found your blog through Simply Hue and am soooooo on board with Operation Nice! I'm ALWAYS saying is it really so difficult to say thank you or even a simple please??? Anyway, I'll now be a regular reader :)

I read about your mom and while it could be a huge number of things it really does sound like what my dad has gone through in the last 10 years. About 10 years ago he went completely numb on his left side and collapsed on a job site. They (the doc's) assumed he was having a stroke and admitted him to the hospital for a couple of weeks. After not finding anything, and I mean anything, they told him he was having mini strokes, put him on stroke medication and they sent him on his way.

10 years later, feeling like utter crap with no energy, no appetite, etc. he had to go to another doc because he switched insurance (thank God). After 1 appointment the new doc told my Dad he didn’t believe he was having mini strokes. That in fact, he was having seizures. His stroke medication was actually poisoning him all that time...

Within a week of stopping the stroke medicine and going on seizure medicine he was like a new man!!! If I hadn’t seen it for my very eyes I wouldn’t have believed the change in him. The doc said that the seizures were sapping all his energy.

Tell her to just keep trying. Try another doc and then another one if she doesn't get answers. Doc's like to believe that their opinion is the only right one and how dare we question them… And some docs won’t overstep over another doctor… All I can say is just keep trying. God bless & you'll both be in my prayers :-)

Sending out prayers and good vibes for your mum.

My mum went through a very similar thing, that took a while to diagnose, but finally they found it and she is recovering now. Just keep going for tests until you find an answer!

Hope things turn around for the both of you soon!

I'm so sorry you've been sick and that your Mom is having such awful health issues. While I'm very glad to hear you're finally feeling better, I think your Mom needs to keep trying doctors until one can diagnose the problem. There are some great doctors out there, but sometimes it takes a few tries.
When my Mom was hospitalized for 5 months I lived 800 miles away...it was awful! I kept flying back and forth, working a few weeks and taking a week off. I know how frustrating it can be when all you want to do is be with your Mom, and there's distance getting in the way.
I'm sending good vibes, and I'll keep you both in my prayers. I hope they find out soon what's causing her issues. Please keep us posted.
Lots of love and warm hugs!

I agree with one of the previous posters... It sound like lymes or Erlichiosis, possibly anaplasmosis. Sometimes the only person that is an advocate is the patient who pushes the medical community. Good luck! I am hoping your mother starts feeling better...
