NICE Assignment: My 2010 Mantra

NICE Assignment
Hi guys! So you can see I disappeared for the holidays. I wanted to focus on the time I was spending with my husband, family, and friends, so I took a little break from the blog world. And now look! It's 2010! Can you believe it? I feel like each year sneaks up on me faster than the previous one. Does that mean I'm getting older? :)

Last year, my first NICE Assignment for 2009 was to Create a Mantra. The phrase I came up with was "Have fun and be nice." I wanted to push myself to do things. Avoid the powerful magnetic draw of the comfy couch and trash TV! Get out there and enjoy life!

I'd have to say I accomplished this. I did so much stuff in 2009. From concerts to trips to film festivals to lectures to parties. Rob and I were non-stop. Sometimes to the point of exhaustion! But it was completely worth it. I have so many fantastic memories from this past year, and I don't plan on stopping either!

NICE Assignment: My 2010 Mantra
Thinking forward to 2010, I thought it would be helpful to try out a new mantra. As some of you know, I've been having trouble with motivation lately. I feel as if I've become complacent with this blog, my hobbies, my home, my dreams. I really need to reflect on what is important to me. Simplifying my life might help quite a bit.

There is one thing that I love that I kind of dabbled in for a month or two in 2009 before my laziness took over, and that's fostering my creativity. I got back to sketching, but eventually put too much pressure on myself and gave up back in early September. Well, 2010 is going to be my year! I'm going to draw regularly. I'm taking a Book Arts class starting January 21. I'm going to visit museums. Basically, I plan on doing everything I can to keep creativity alive in my life. So here is my mantra:

Create and inspire.

Simple. These were actually the two words I wanted tattooed in the insides of my wrists as reminders of how I want to live my life. I want to always be creating. And hopefully I'll also inspire others through my art, my words, this blog, etc. I have quite a few goals for 2010, but I feel like if I can stick with this mantra, it will be a fantastic year!

So what's your mantra for the year? Has it changed?

I love it. "Create and inspire." That's really perfect. And while you're talking about art, it also stands for the kindness and love that gets spread around by your website!

This year I'm going to try to focus better and not get distracted by things that don't help me reach my goals.

Good luck being creative & inspiring in the coming year!

I had to smile when I saw your mantra! I gave that mantra to my 2 year old daughter when her brother was born. Her job as big sister was to be nice and have fun! Great mantra to live by!

yours is exactly what mine is. i've been trying to think of my own original one, but i keep coming back to create and inspire!

i haven't had much time to create things in the last few months, but over the weekend i turned my front porch into an art studio - a place of my own to do nothing but create! and inspire? well, i could use a little motivation and inspiration of my own, but i want to be able to motivate myself and others =)

Really love your mantra! I'm still working on one for myself, but it will definitely incorporate the elements of yours because what's more fulfilling than creating and inspiring???
