Well gosh, I haven't handed out flowers since July. Hmmm.
Then I received a blog comment from "hannaandmatt" that read, "I just received a flower at work (Brisbane city) with a label attached with Operation Nice on it and Pass it on. Love it. Thanks! It has been passed on and is most likely making it's way around the whole floor before heading to other floors in our company!!"
Sounds like the Operation NICE flower tags I made for our one year anniversary. A NICE person out there must have passed out flowers in support of Operation NICE!
Well, thanks to a tweet, I have discovered their identities! It's Katy (left) and and Felicity (right) of Brisbane who wanted to cheer up their already pretty sweet city!

Read the entire story of their mission here.
Thanks to a generous flower man who donated gorgeous multi-colored carnations to their cause, they made up adorable tags of their own and spent a lovely afternoon making the people of Brisbane smile. Just as I had back in July, they ran into some skeptics, but overall had a fantastic afternoon.
A message for Katy and Felicity:
THANK YOU! I'm so thrilled that the niceness is being spread all over the world. And judging by the two messages I've already received, I'm not the only one that is grateful! YOU ROCK! As if I needed any motivation to keep up with this blog, your "flower-giving lunchtime stroll" is it. I wish I could have been there with you!

Hi, I'm Melissa! Welcome to my blog! I believe that kindness can change the world, so it's my mission to spread the concept of being nice, as simple as that may sound. I hope you'll have a look around!
Do you have a NICE story you'd like to share? Maybe one you've stumbled upon or something that has affected you personally? If so,

Here's a list of NICE folks who have mentioned Operation NICE on their site or supported us by using our badge. Thank you so much!

See Melissa...you did it! You were the inspiration felt all the way in Australia...even if it took awhile! (But what's up with all those mean USA comments in Katy's blog???)
True, I didn't even think about that. Well, I'm sure other countries have a particular opinion on what the US is like, and it has mostly a negative connotation. Since I haven't lived anywhere else, I can't make a viable comparison. But I like it here! Sure, there are nasty folks, but that's everywhere, right?
How fun to read about people in another country spreading the NICE!
And two down! :)
That's just awesome. I love that your message is spreading so far. ^_^
I suppose it's a good lesson to remember. If I want to spread NICE...I also need to keep my negative comments to myself!
Hi Melissa,
Wowsers - we made waves. Felicity and I were really pleased to see that people are following through, whether it was by going to your wonderful website to read about other great ways to be NICE, or re-gifting the flowers, or even just exchanging a smile with a stranger in the elevator!
And Cheryl, I certainly didn't mean any disrespect to the US by my blog post, really I didn'y. Ask any of my friends, they'll tell you that I am a HUGE fan of the US in general, and that I am constantly hounding my BF to take me to Nashville (I'm a country gal ata heart!). I'm so sorry about the misunderstanding, I love the US and the people, but there is definitely a word association with America and loneliness, and selfishness. Unfortunately, it's the way most Australians perceive the USA. It's certainly presented like that to us in the mainstream media. But... we know better, and it's through great blogs and online commumities like Twitter, that we can all show that the Earth is a pretty small place, and our actions can be spread around the globe!
Wow! I was wondering who in Brisbane was handing out flowers from that comment yesterday. Turns out to be my twitter friends! Hurrah!
Beautiful! I love how love spreads. :)
Hey Melissa - it was such a blast to do it. At first Katy and I were a little nervous and awkward, but once we got through a few people we just strolled, chatted and were generally happy - and then that transferred into people around us. When I got back to my office I had co workers say "Where's mine?!" so I suggested they do something NICE for someone else.
I've also now taken to complimenting strangers - tonight at the grocery store I told a woman the colour of her shirt looked perfect on her and told another woman her perfume smelt lovely. And both were true.. but the best part was these ladies glowed with their smiles. Such a blessing :)

Katy - My second comment really was a realization to myself. I try to spread some NICE to strangers and yet I sometimes say not so nice things particularly to friends and family!!! I have to be more aware! I currently have 3 great Australians in my life...well, 2 great ones and one so-so one. It reminds me that people are what's important not necessarily governments or organizations. I do find it interesting to hear your perceptions. Selfishness I can understand but the loneliness is a little surprising. You did a NICE thing with the flowers and person to person is where NICE needs to start! Thanks for your story.
I was really interested, as I live in Sydney Australia myself, to see that there was a misunderstanding! It's unfortunate that some people's feelings were hurt, especially because the reality is that minus all the globalisation cynicism, there are some really fantastic parts of the US that Australians are absolutely nuts about.
And what really impressed me was how civilly and NICEly the misunderstanding was remedied.
I'm definitely going to drop some flowers off around Circular Quay with your tags. I chicken out before, because I didn't think anyone in Sydney would know about it, but now I'm definitely excited to!
Hi, again! I'd forgotten about your flower sharing idea and this entry reminded me of it! It was also interesting to read the comments about the USA in your comments. Kind of neat though that your NICE blog is made in the USA...isn't it? Way to go, Melissa! I may just have to pass out some flowers today with your tags. Now, I may even start a flower gifting idea of my own if you don't mind with my site...'Are you positive'...although I may change the title to 'Are we positive yet?' or 'Why are we so positive? - I love the idea of spreading nice things...but you sure get a lot of credit for the reminders. It's like Zig Ziglar says...motivation is like taking a bath, you need to refresh continually! Thanks for your motivations and for being so positive! :)
