NICE Stuff: Seals of Recognition

I've been preparing for the HOW Design Conference in Austin, TX next week. Even though I know I should be networking as a designer and not necessarily a "do-gooder," I'm way more interested in spreading the word about Operation NICE. So in addition to business cards, I thought it would be fun to make a little giveaway item to hand out to people I meet.

Then a few weeks ago, I received an email from Clare, a business ettiquette & social skills expert, who mentioned an idea about making "NICE Person of the Week" stickers. Something you could stick on a person's shirt when they do a nice deed. I loved it!

So I whipped up a design, ordered some stickers, made a little card to package it, and lo and behold, Seals of Recognition. I ended up changing the phrase on the sticker because I wanted to make sure "NICE" was right in the center, but here they are:

So? What do you think? Will people use them? At the very least, it's an introduction to Operation NICE, which is really the goal, right?

I'm still playing around with the text on the back, but here's what it says, if you're curious:

HOW TO USE: When you witness an individual performing an act of kindness*, reward them with this official Seal of Recognition, placed on their person for all to see. No kind act is too small.

*Acts of kindness include but are not limited to holding a door, giving a hug, saying a friendly “hello,” being polite, buying someone a cup of coffee, picking up litter, sharing a coupon, volunteering, helping someone cross the street, giving up a seat on a bus/train/subway, helping someone reach something on a tall shelf...you get the idea.

Operation NICE is a movement which encourages individuals to be proactively nice. If everyone was a little bit kinder to the people they encountered each day, perhaps the world would be a more pleasant place.

I'd love to hear your thoughts!

I love them (and am excited to have a pack of my own). The only problem is that they look so cute on my desk that I don't want to give them away! :-) I guess I'll part with them eventually....

Great idea. I would be honored if someone gave me one but would be embarrassed to leave it on. I would like it better if it indicated someone else had bestowed the honor...such as "Someone Thinks I'm Nice" or "A Total Stranger Gave Me This Nice Award" or even "Nice Person Award".

You have such great ideas!

Cheryl - I love the "NICE Person Award" idea!!! I'm going to steal it from you, is that okay??

You guys are so sweet. I wasn't thinking about selling them. Hmmm. I'll have to think about that. If you all have any ideas, please let me know!

Would you want them the way they are? Would you want more than four in a pack?

you did a go job on these!
at first i was a little hesitant, imagining myself handing a sticker to an adult, but then again, people want to be heroes and recognized as such and this would be so great!!

I think these would go like hot cakes on Etsy! maybe in packs of 5 or something.... you could donate some of the proceeds to a NICE organization?

I'm a huge fan of the idea of "tagging" people that are caught doing good. So I think the stickers are a cool idea.

I love it. It introduces people to the site and also encourages them to recognize people doing good things which will encourage them to be pro-actively nice. I like this kind catch 22.

Love 'em!!! Do you have "nice" tattoo?

I think these are great! I would definitely buy them and use them all the time. It's an unexpected way to let someone know you noticed and you appreciate those nice things they do, no matter how small!

You are on to something! These are a great idea.
Just think how NICE a person would feel getting one of these just for being nice! You are a breath of fresh air!

I definitely agree with the "Nice Person Award" or "Someone Thinks I'm Nice". I think the person who is given the sticker might feel more comfortable with it. I want them to hand out where I work as I'm trying to find ways to recognize employees during patient care interactions. Seriously, get going on these! ;-)
