NICE Stuff: Always Looking Up

I have a new book on my wish list. And now that I finally finished Outliers (which was excellent, by the way), I might bump this one up on my "to read" list because the subject matter is right up my alley.

It was penned by one of my first celebrity crushes when I was a wee lass, Michael J. Fox. (Come on, could Alex P. Keaton be any dreamier?) His new book is titled, Always Looking Up: The Adventures of an Incurable Optimist.

To accompany this book, last week ABC aired a one hour documentary special by the same name. Did you guys watch it? I thought it was wonderful! Definitely brought a tear to my eye and warmth to my heart. And now I have a dream of moving to Bhutan. If you saw it, you'll know why.

Didn't get to see it? You're in luck! The folks at ABC have the entire special online right now for your viewing pleasure. Just go to the ABC website, click on "free episodes" and select "Michael J. Fox." If you like this blog, you'll love this special.

If you did happen to see it, or if you read the book, I'd love to hear what you thought!

I saw the ABC special and I'd have to say one of my favorite parts was when Michael J. Fox was at the farming co-op and said that "hope doesn't exist in a vaccum". I couldn't agree more. It's really a strength in numbers sentiment. You have to find others that share your dream(s) and work together towards that common goal. That's exactly how I see Operation NICE - a bunch of people coming together to advocate kindness. I am so greatful to you Melissa for starting something really beautiful! Thank you!

I just that book to my read list too...the documentary was inspiring to say the least, although I hate the commercial breaks cause it ruins the spirit. oh well. I am not sure about moving to Bhutan but a visit might be nice.

The book was fantastic! It's one of the few books I have been able to read in under 14 days (it was on loan from the library) and it renewed my childhood crush on MJF and gave me a new respect for him. Unfortunately, I only caught the tail-end of the TV program, thanks for posting the link so I can catch the whole thing!

Oh my gosh, Family Ties was the best. Alex.P.Keaton was hilarious and sooooo cute! Have been meaning to read the book as well - you have reminded me to go and get it. Thanks!

Just finished reading the book and was unaware of the ABC special, so thanks for the tip. I have been reflecting on different things from this book all day and am grateful for the perspective, humor, faith, and sincere thoughts and experiences Michael J. Fox shared in it. He is making his life something to be so proud of. You just can't help but love him and his family and admire them for their efforts and the fullness of their lives.

Yep, this one is worth reading.

Hi, I've just discovered your blog and felt compelled to comment and say it was wonderful of you to start something like this. It made me very happy, so thank you! I saw the Michael J. Fox special and I loved it. I've been wanting to go to Bhutan for some time now, so that was fun to watch. Bhutan is high up on my dreamlist, and sometimes, those dreamlist items have a way of plopping in your lap, don't they?
Thank you again- you've made my day!
