NICE Assignment: Make a Mix Tape

NICE Assignment
Before I get into this week's assignment, I wanted to mention my delayed postings. I'm going through a busy spell at work which probably won't end until the third week of April (counting the days!), so I haven't been as regular. On top of that, the Philadelphia Film Festival starts on Thursday, so I'll be seeing 12 movies in 12 days. I'm a little nervous about burn out! But obviously Operation NICE is a big priority of mine. I've decided to alter my schedule a little bit so I can wake up 30-45 minutes earlier each day, in hopes of knocking out a post in my half-groggy state. :) Let's see how this works out!

Onto the assignment!

I was looking through my cd collection the other day. I bought new iPod Classic, so I'm trying to load everything I own on there. Ambitious, I know. But I came across a mix cd that I made for my husband, nearly 8 years ago, filled with love songs and songs that reminded me of him. Cute, right? Then I thought about the mix tapes (yes, cassette tapes) that he had made for me when we started dating.

It was always so fun, waiting for the next song to start, wondering what treasure might await. Knowing that another person looked through their musical collection with YOU in mind.

Today's Assignment: Make a Mix Tape (or CD)

I think it's ready for a comeback, if it even went away in the first place. Do you ever listen to your music library and think about how certain songs remind you of certain people? Burn 'em to a disc, label it "So and So's Mix", and pass it along! It's fun, it's easy, and it'll be appreciated. Make a mix for your mom, your coworker, your loved one, whoever!

There's even a wikiHow on how to make the perfect mix tape, if you need some tips.

And I'll tell you what. If you'd like to participate, leave a comment here letting me know that you promise to make a mix tape for someone in your life. I'll randomly draw three comments and I'll send you a mix tape (CD) of my own! Drawing will take place next Monday, March 30th. So get mixin'!

My daughter makes them for me all the time - maybe it's time I made one for her...

I love it! I used to make mix tapes all the time.... remember recording them off the radio? Trying to hit the record button at just the right time to skip all the chatter and yet catch the beginning of the song? Hee hee ;)

One of the first gifts my boyfriend of two years ever gave me was a mixed cd, to celebrate us graduating college. He makes them for me on special occasions because he believes something hand picked and created is more meaningful than an expensive gift. Plus, we both love music. I made him one for Valentine's Day this year and he said I did a really good job. That means a lot since he has become an expert mixed cd song picker.

I love this idea! I started doing this for my now husband when we were dating and the cds still put a smile on my face when I listen to them. I think I'm going to make another volume in the series tonight!! :)

My husband is crazy into his iPod Shuffle. I think what I'll do is make him a surprise playlist and secretly load it onto his Shuffle -- when he hears it, he'll be totally surprised and he won't be able to see what's coming next! I think I'll have to switch the Shuffle to straight play because the songs will be better in the order that I intended them.

Thanks for the inspiration!

I will be making one this weekend and I'll be back to post the songs I have chosen

I just hope that whoever I give it to has a way to play it

I was just making one for my friend Lisa and another for her 2.5 yr old daughter. I make them all the time! I even gave them in my son's bday goodie bags at his 2 yr party a couple of weeks ago.

That is so nice...I haven't made a mix tape in so long. Funny thing is my husband I I don't agree on a lot of music but one of our shared fave's is a sing called Mix Tape by Butch Walker.

Oh, I like this! My husband and I regularly make mixes for each other -- but he's been making them mostly for me. We usually just playlist back and forth until it's perfect.

I have Shazam on my Iphone, so when I hear a good song, I "shazam" it so I know the artist and name of the song (or so I can remember it too). I then make a cd for my husband or daughters, I do it all the time, fun gifts! I will make another one for my neighbor, who on April 4th will be a year out of a stroke. He is doing GREAT!!

Hi. Great blog.

My biggest mixtape challenge was to make a CD suitable for a friend to listen to in the car, after he'd just learned to drive...

His wife has pretty different musical tastes from his, and I also had to cater for his little girl's tastes too. It turned out unsurprisingly eclectic, but much fun to make.

I make mixes all the time, I wish someone would make one for me. I need some new tunes. I love making them , the last two I made were for my mother-in-law for her Wedding and one for my boys's 3rd birthday party that was given away in the goody bags too.
PS I love your blog! I accept this challenge!

Mix tapes are AWESOME!

I will definitely make one for someone. Maybe my mom, since she owns like NO music.

I hope I get picked! :)

I need to do this for my hubby and my Isa (oldest daughter). She loves her shuffle and I put music in it all them time, but I didn't think to make a playlist for her. I've done it for my Jamelito though... I'm making one and hope to win yours! LOL You have such great taste on music.

What an easy promise! I make mix tapes for my friends, family, coworkers, acquaintances...all of the time. I love making them and receiving them. It's now a tradition that my best friend and I exchange mix tapes at Christmas. A tradition that started years ago when we were both broke college students. I hope I'm lucky enough to get one of your mixes.
Happy Mixing!!!

I'm making a mixed tape for my exboyfriend right now. And I AM using a cassette!

The songs range in genres, and listening through them are making me kinda teary... but I hope he enjoys it.

And yeah, it is for my ex. But it's not desperate. These songs are showing him that I'll always be his friend, no matter what. And if he ever needs me, I'll be there. That's the promise we made together.
