I took the easy way out today. Two of my friends came over for a visit and we stopped by Friendly's for some milkshakes, so I treated them and Rob. I know it didn't require too much effort, but if the speed at which they inhaled their milkshakes was any indication, they enjoyed them quite a bit!
I need to work on giving my time and my energy. It's always been easier for me to just give my money. Make a donation here, buy someone a treat there. It's always been more difficult for me to take 30 minutes of my day to call someone or write a long overdue email. I need to amp that up during my next 27 days.
Do any of you have similar struggles or maybe some tips for overcoming that sort of thing?

I'm so glad you said that.... I was so touched by your last post about the Girl Scout cookies, but my husband is currently laid off and giving in that way for 29 days just wouldn't be possible for us right now. I think figuring out creative ways to give without spending money is a lot harder, but can also be a lot more fulfilling. One good way to do this would be sending a complimentary letter to someone regarding their excellent customer service... baking goodies for a generous mailman (which costs a little bit of money, but not as much)... or even just helping an elderly person with their groceries. Those things are still making a difference and still making someone feel good, which is the ultimate goal.
Helpothers.org has a ton of awesome ideas and great stories. I don't know if it has been mentioned here or not...
Even opening a door for a mother with a stroller is helping. Or helping an elderly person cross the street. Pick up trash off the ground. all free things!
My neighbors are older. So when it snows, we've brought their newspapers to their front doors and shoveled their walks for them. I also recently agreed to mentor two eighth grade girls. It's a commitment of about 9 hours over a six week period. I've never done this before, but I know I'll get as much as I give. Another idea: read to kids. Many elementary schools have read aloud days and always welcome volunteers.
Awesome.
Sometimes its hard to think of original ways to give...but that's why this little challenge of yours is so great. It keeps us accountable for giving to others for 29 days straight.
I am still trying to keep up with you ma'am. On to day 26!
gosh, I miss going to friendly's...I'm pretty sure they all closed in Jacksonville. (sigh)
back on topic: If you really have a hard time thinking of something that's not "money" I know that the Blood Banks are always needy! I'm serious! At my local Blood Alliance they have my donations earmarked for newborns...they stamp my sheet with a cute little baby foot stamp! I like thinking that my blood helps the little ones.
Today I took my coffee and sat next to the annoying girl at work. "Hey how are you?" I never really really listen to her, I nod and say hmhm and get back to work. Don't like her high screaming voice I must admit (shame on me, I know!) Today I gave her my full attention (I like to think of that as a gift, or doesn't it count in the 29 days challenge?) and LISTENED. Maybe you have someone like that?
