From the USA Service website:
Last week President-elect Obama issued a national call to service, asking all Americans to make a lasting commitment to renew our communities. Thousands of you already have answered the call, signing up to host or attend volunteer events in your area on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, January 19th.
In response to this call to service, Starbucks will make their stores a place where you can make that 5 hour pledge to your community. I'd love to participate in the Day of Service on the 19th, but I'll be at work preparing for a demanding work event on the 21st. What I CAN do, however, is pledge to contribute at least 5 hours of my time in 2009. I hope you'll join me!

I didn't even know that president-elect has suggested that. It's on of my 09 resolution. :)
I'm definitely with you!
I've volunteered to help with the "Yes We CAN" food drive in my neighborhood on Monday, and will definitely be stopping by Starbucks next week to take the pledge. Thanks for sharing!
5 hours in 2009 is great! Everyone can spare that much time in one year and I hope that we all do.
Thank you for the idea!
I think the Starbucks pledge 5 campaign is great. It shows Starbucks commitment to trying to help the community. It's something other corporates should be doing.
I wonder how the current economic environment/downturn will effect corporates getting involved to make a difference with the environment and corporate social responsibility.
It's great that Starbucks are holding the flag and pushing other corporates to do the same.
Have a read at my post about other CSR initatives.
