NICE Testimonial: For me??

Someone did something very nice for me.

At work on Friday, I received an email from a coworker asking if I had won a Starbucks gift card. I replied with "Not that I'm aware of, why?" He then called to tell me that Pierre Robert of WMMR (Philadelphia radio station) was talking about me and Operation NICE, saying how someone had nominated me as the Good Citizen of the Week and I had won a $50 Starbucks gift card!

I couldn't believe it. So I immediately called my husband, Rob, who called his brother, a regular WMMR listener, and turns out he had heard it too!

I found out that it was Jessica, a friend of mine from high school who I unfortunately haven't seen in years and one of the sweetest gals I've ever known, who had sent my information in to the radio station.

I was sitting at my desk, nearly in tears. Ever since I started this blog in July, I've been pushing myself to be as nice as possible. Maybe be a little less selfish and focus more on others. And I feel so great inside because of it, truly. What I never would have expected is all the niceness I'm receiving in return! People sending me beautiful gifts, offering their goods for giveaways, writing about this site, and nominating me as a good citizen. It's crazy! There are tons of people out there who do greater things than me! It feels like it's super-karma. But I do have to admit, it makes me want to work even harder on this project, spreading kindness and encouraging niceness.

Since I was at work, I had to keep myself from crying, but I felt very emotional about this gesture. I was humbled, and proud, and gracious all at the same time. So I guess what I'm saying is, thank you Jessica, and thank you to everyone else who makes me feel like I'm on the right track with this project. Hopefully this is only the beginning!

Girl...you rock! Not only am I proud to be on the same planet as you, I'm proud to be on the same coast (east coasters rock the house)!

The attention you got from WMMR and others give me more confidence in what I am trying to do at my blog. I found you because of the WMMR spot. Go Pierre.

People want nice. They want good news. They want uplifting inspirational stories. They want hope, laughs and giggles!

Have a fantabulous week - cheers from Wilmington!

You deserve it Mel, congratulations! Not only do you write about niceness - and all the assignments, links, etc - but you are living it too. And that isn't always easy to do. Honestly, there has been more than one occasion where I've found myself thinking "This is the Operation Nice thing to do!" Cheers to all your efforts, and I hope you get many more treats of recognition.
