Anyway, earlier today I received my Liquid Treat email, and it had this site listed. Thinkb4youspeak.com
It's an Ad Council initiative to encourage people to rethink the negative terminology they regularly use...particularly calling things "gay". I really enjoyed this video featuring Wanda Sykes.

Oh heck yeah. And may I add - that's (I'm, she's, he's it's) so retarded? Same deal. Not ok. Not cool. And most assuredly not nice.
I was just going to comment on the fact they need a PSA on the use of the word retard. I may have to steal Wanda's line next time I hear such ignorance. It really gets my blood boiling. My kids even told me the other day that they herad someone say the "r" word. I was stumped... didn't know what the "r" word was. They reminded me. I think they get it, now how about the rest of the world!
Great video, great point, great response to give to those who are clueless! thank you, Olivia
If I hear my children use the phrase " that's gay" or "he/she is a retard", I threaten to wash their mouths out with soap. I think that using those words to denigrate a person or thing is just as bad as using a foul, four-letter word. We need to realize that words can and do hurt others. Thanks for this video!
That's awesome!
I once made that major flub - completely unintentionally.
My friend Tom and I share the same career field - and in a phone convo I was complaining about a ridiculous work assignment - suddenly - the words flew out of my mouth "the whole thing was totally gay."
This - I said to my dear gay friend! Ack. I called him back and told him I didn't even know why I said that - I NEVER say that. EVER! And it flew out of my mouth while talking to HIM!
He just laughed and said it was okay - he wasn't offended. Whew.
And it hasn't flown out of my mouth since. Thank God!
When I was in high school, I used this phrase all the time, exactly because I didn't stop to think about what I was saying. One of my classmates, who was gay, was really offended and she let me have it. I wasn't prejudiced, I just never thought about what the meaning of that phrase was.
Thanks for posting this!
I really like how people are taking action and letting others know how offensive it is..I hope it makes a positive difference not only with future generations but with the people who are saying it.
