Last week I ran out of my pore refining moisturizer. My skin looks like the surface of the moon without it so this is an emergency. I set out to the local CVS because I can walk to it. No luck there... nor at any of 3 others, 2 Walgreens, a Target and a couple of grocery stores. I happened to stop in at another CVS for something else later. Staff member Chad greeted me as I came in and as I was l was passing him to leave he asked if I'd found everything I needed. Yeah, this is pretty standard in the burbs in Indianapolis actually, so I wasn't surprised but I decided to ask about my elusive moisturizer.
Chad looked on the shelves to see if they had it or even had a stocked space for it. Upon not finding any, he offered to check their system but he wouldn't be able to until the pharmacy opened again because he couldn't access the necessary computer(it was very late and they were all but closed when I arrived). He gave me his name, store number and a synopsis of his work schedule and promised to have an update when I called back.A few days later I called and he informed me of bad news... they no longer carry the product. However, Chad had taken time at home to go online and make calls. He'd found 3 other retailers who do still carry it and have it in stock. He gave me the name and address info for each.
How's that for nice?
That's it. I'm moving to the suburbs of Indianapolis. I want that kind of special attention when I walk into a CVS!

That is such a great story! I can't believe he would take the time to look it up at home for her - what a super nice guy! I love to hear stories of good customer service, because where I live, it's really becoming non-existant. People say it's because there are so many jobs in the service industry around here that no one has to try to keep their job - if they're fired they'll just go somewhere else. But that's not the point. It shouldn't be good service so you can keep your job - it should be good service because you enjoy being pleasant and making someone's day. I don't understand it, but it seems like some people simply don't want to be nice. And that's sad. Thank God for people like Chad (and Mel).
I totally agree! I don't believe there's an abundance of service jobs around here, but it's rare that I even come across someone who smiles and makes small talk anymore. I can't say that I was always pleasant when I worked retail, but I know that the days where I was friendlier and more open to chatting with customers were the best (and fastest moving!) days.
A friend of mine sent me this appropriate Seth Godin post.
That's AWESOME! AND Melissa I love your little photo:)
Wow! Is this Chad person married? 'Cause if he's not I think he'd be quite the catch! :-)
