NICE Testimonial: A Birthday in the Sky

Happy Friday, everyone! I hope you all have great weekends ahead of you! I'm actually headed out tonight to sketch some burlesque girls, so I'm pretty excited!

Yesterday I received an email from Alexis, sharing an event that happen a few months ago. I was so touched that I had to share it with you right away!

My story starts in June of 2008 while I was flying back to Chicago after spending a week at the beach with my family. I was upset to fly that day because I was going to miss my family and to make matters worse I was flying all day on my 25th birthday. All I wanted was to either be in Chicago with my friends or with my family, not stuck on a plane with a bunch of strangers.

I had a layover in Baltimore and as the plane was taxiing down the runway the pilot came on the loud speaker and uttered those words that no passenger ever wants to hear...we were turning back to the terminal. We had a delay because of weather in Chicago. We weren't going to be leaving for another 2 hours! Now, I usually consider myself to be a patient person but not at this moment. I was on the plane crying into my phone when the woman sitting next to me took notice. She happened to be an off duty flight attendant for the airline. I told her why I was upset and she immediately took to consoling me. She gave me a great big hug and brought me some tissues. After a while we were able to get off the plane and my flight attendant friend offered to get me something from the terminal as I was going to stay on the plane. I politely declined. However, when she returned she had brought back a HUGE chocolate chip cookie with her. She stuck a makeshift candle into it and sang me happy birthday. She was an absolute doll. At that moment I forgot all about the family I left behind and the friends who were waiting for me and focused on the amazing gesture of this complete stranger.

I am still amazed by the generosity of this woman. I never thanked her the way I truly wish I had. She made my birthday and absolutely unfogettable day. She also made me remember that the smallest of gestures goes a BIG way. I look forward to the day I can pay it forward.

If that were me, I know I would have weeped uncontrollably when presented with that cookie! That woman was so concerned about the Alexis in a time where she really needed the empathy. I know all about the sucky birthday! My 18th birthday was supposed to be the day I moved to my college dorm, but I ended up in the hospital with kidney stones. Not only did I cry all day from the intense pain, but I was so disappointed to spend my birthday and first day of college in a hospital bed. Even though we had broken up weeks earlier, my ex-boyfriend stopped by the hospital on his way to the college to drop off a small gift and card. I really needed that!

What a great story! Reading things like that really renews my faith in people.

I would have cried too, and a proof is that I got teary eyed just by reading it.

And your ex-boyfriend's detail was a very beautiful and thoughtful thing as well.

There's good people everywhere, and it's good to remember that!

it is so amazing to have a birthday but the bad thing sometimes is that we don't have with who celebrate it,
