NICE Site: The Illustrated Guide to Free Hugs

Back in 2004, a gentleman by the name of "Juan Mann" began offering free hugs in a shopping mall in Sydney. And now there's an e-book telling Mann's story, illustrated by Krista Brennan. It's available as a free download (or for a small donation, if you can spare it) on the website The Illustrated Guide to Free Hugs. Here, Mann also tells the emotional story of why he began this campaign.

From The Illustrated Guide to Free Hugs:
The Free Hugs Campaign is about many things, like making someone’s day a little brighter, meeting people and showing the world that strangers aren’t so bad after all. It’s also about bringing people together and sharing a happy moment before heading back out into the world feeling a little lighter.

The Free Hugs Campaign is all about people being there for each other.

When you’re feeling sad and alone in the world, it helps to talk to people, to share a laugh with someone, to see someone smile at you, to have somebody wrap their arms around you and reassure you that everything will be alright.

I know there are plenty of days where I could use a free hug! Okay, pretty much everyday. If you want to get the warm fuzzies by witnessing the campaign, check out this video:

Wow! That was really inspiring - unexpectedly so. I thought it would be fun and funny and interesting, but by the end I was very moved by it. Thanks so much for sharing that. I can't believe free hugs were banned! You really have to wonder what people are thinking.

I have a peace sticker on my car and believe it or not I get nasty comments sometimes. My response is always "You're against peace????" Same thing, there was really someone out there opposed to hugs?

Luckily, I think those people are very few and far between and most people are good and nice and want to connect. You prove that every day with this site.

It is so strange that I found this because a friend and I were just talking about giving free high fives to people.

That was a really sweet video. There must be a lot of people who are anti-hug out there. When I was in 9th grade hugging was banned at my high school. It was a very small school so that sort of change had a pretty major impact on the culture there.

Hugging is cool people!

Such a sweet story and it shows that it's just that simple. A hug. A "You Matter Hug". It put a smile to my face and made me realize that a simple gesture does make an impact.

Thanks for sharing this.

I love this video! Last year I was telling all my friends about it and how it really warmed my heart, but they didn't really understand. You have to see it to feel it, ya know?

Who can be anti-peace?? And anti-hug?? I really hope there's more of us than there are of those people!
